Biography Summary:

Lt Col John M. Romspert serves as the Director of Staff – Air, Joint Forces Headquarters, Alaska Air National Guard. He is the principal advisor to the Alaska Air National Guard commander, and principal staff leader providing guidance and direction to two flying wings with over 2,400 Alaska National Guard members who support airlift, rescue, aerial refueling, air defense, and space warning and surveillance missions as well as deploy within the state and worldwide in support of humanitarian emergencies and national defense. He manages recruiting operations and coordinates with headquarters directors and chiefs of special staff across all functional specialties. He supervises implementation of command decisions, plans and policies for the Alaska Air National Guard military and civilian staff, and directly manages the headquarters’ budget.

Lt Col Romspert was born in Wilmington, DE. He entered the Air Force in February 1994 as a Pararescue candidate. In December 1995, he graduated the Pararescue Apprentice course receiving the Distinguished Graduate and Superintendent’s awards. His first duty assignment was the 41st Rescue Squadron, Patrick AFB, FL with follow on assignments to the 41st Rescue Squadron, Moody AFB, GA, and the 320th Special Tactics Squadron, Kadena AB, Okinawa, Japan. In January 2003, he transferred to the 210th Rescue Squadron, Kulis ANGB, Alaska Air National Guard. He served as a Pararescueman in the 210th and 212th Rescue Squadrons until June 2007 when he received his commission from the Academy of Military Science, McGhee-Tyson ANGB, Knoxville, TN. He then became a Combat Rescue Officer in the 212th Rescue Squadron. As an operator he has deployed on 14 occasions: 10 deployments in support of Operations SOUTHERN WATCH, DESERT THUNDER, ENDURING FREEDOM, INHERENT RESOLVE, and ENDURING FREEDOM-Philippines. He has also taken part in four Air Force Special Operation’s deployments to Thailand, Korea, and Guam, and is credited with 150 combat saves and 80 civilian saves in Alaska.
