2016 Real Heroes Breakfast - Military Rescue - Red Cross of Alaska

MILITARY RESCUE - Sponsored by: Sam's Club - 210 RQS, 211 RQS, 212 RQS, 144th AS, ALASKA RESCUE COORDINATION CENTER

April 7th - Three mountain climbers got stranded by severe weather at 8500 feet high at Knik Glacier. 210th, 211th and 212th Rescue Squadrons and 144th Airlift Squadron responded with a rescue mission. Three long days later the weather permitted them to pick up the survivors. Due to coordinated efforts and dedication of all involved teams, three lives were saved that day.

We are honored to shine a spotlight on everyday Alaskans who have committed extraordinary, selfless acts of bravery. They have saved lives, changed their communities for the better and made a difference. Like the Red Cross, they have taken it upon themselves to PREVENT and ALLEVIATE suffering for those in need.

Tuesday April 26th, we celebrated those moments where hope prevails, compassion has triumphed and ordinary citizens have acted, with resolve, often without regard to their own safety, to help a fellow Alaskan. The men, women and youth being honored today are reluctant heroes, but heroes nonetheless.

When disaster strikes, the Red Cross will always be ready to answer the call. We invite you this morning to help ensure that we have the resources to continue and grow our lifesaving mission. As you listen to these remarkable stories, please know that your gift makes a deep and lasting impression on our great state.
